Australia Day 2010Australia Day 2010

Australia Day 2010 at Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort proved to be a fantastic success with more than 400 people in attendance.

The emphasis on this day was fun and participation, and being an extremely hot day the Blue Dolphin waterfront proved to be the best location to hold the activities.

Families set up their picnic spots in the shade of the trees near the water, making this a very pleasant area thanks to a nice cool sea breeze.

The Blue Dolphin park buggy was decorated, staff were all decked out in their red, white & blue colours, zinc on their noses and their shade hats on.

At 11.30am we began the Aussie Day Celebrations with old fashioned games of: Tug of War, Egg & Spoon races, Thong Throwing, Sack Races, Vegemite & Sao-eating competitions, Balloon Games, Mums vs. Dads, Mothers & Daughters against Fathers & Sons.

Donna from our Service Station provided a good old Aussie BBQ, drinks and ice blocks and Karen, the tattoo lady, were kept busy, spraying Aussie tattoos on our guests. The sno-cone man kept everyone happy with his red cordial icy treats, ensuring all of a great fun-filled day.

At 2.30pm we gathered at the jetty to judge the best decorated bike, scooter and rider.  Our Blue Dolphin staff led all competitors around the park on our Blue Dolphin Aussie Bike & Scooter Rally.  Areas in the park we visited were:

  • Canberra Parliament House Circuit (car park circles)
  • White City Tennis Centre (tennis courts where they did the Leyton Hewitt 'come on' yell)
  • Uluru (stage area) where guests had to dismount and walk over the stage and corroboree on to the grass to Didgeridoo music
  • Villa Avenue - to the big bump in the road which were called ‘Thredbo Ski Jump’ where staff sprinkled the riders with glitter, representing snow flakes
  • Spa Villa corner where staff had the fire hoses arched to form a likeness to Sydney Harbour Bridge - they got very wet!
  • Then all proceeded down to the waterfront pathway - to the very loud chants of AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE - OI OI OI - where mums and dads had formed a victory lap arrival tunnel, waving Australian flags to welcome them back.

What a fantastic day! By 5pm everyone was exhausted but the effort, success and the wonderful comments were well worth it. Thank you to all who participated in this great day. We look forward to welcoming you back next year!
